Plans for a trauma center and modern teaching hospital in Ho Chi Minh City

Large-scale medical infrastructure projects in Tan Nhut commune The Ho Chi Minh City government has submitted an investment proposal to the City People’s Council for a specialized trauma medical facility with an estimated budget exceeding 4,200 billion VND. Planned for Tan Nhut Commune, the facility is expected to feature a 10-story main building and one basement, focusing on high-tech surgical and diagnostic imaging areas. The project aims to establish a centralized treatment model, replacing the current scattered trauma departments to optimize emergency response times.

Addressing overcrowding and medical risks This move is intended to fundamentally resolve space and traffic limitations at existing inner-city facilities. Due to cramped conditions, patients at the older unit often have to stay in corridors, increasing the risk of post-operative infections. Furthermore, the central location hinders ambulance movement during peak hours. According to the timeline, the new project will begin preparations in 2026, with construction taking place between 2027 and 2029, and official operations expected by 2030.

Establishing a 500-bed practice hospital for medical education Concurrently, another medical project in Tan Nhut Commune has been proposed with a budget of over 4,700 billion VND. This is a standard 500-bed practice hospital belonging to Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine. The facility will serve as a centralized training and research hub for over 12,000 students, addressing the current issue of fragmented internships across various hospitals and ensuring consistent output quality for the healthcare sector.
