Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have detained five individuals for their involvement in the manufacturing and distribution of fraudulent medical products. The operation was led by a 36-year-old man, assisted by his spouse and three workers who managed the assembly process.
The illegal production took place at two secluded sites in Binh My Commune, Cu Chi District. During the raid, officials confiscated over 4,300 finished bottles mimicking a popular Thai medicated oil brand, along with a significant amount of packaging machinery, empty vials, and counterfeit labels.
The investigation revealed the following operational details:
-
Ingredients: The group used industrial solvents, dyes, and fragrances of unknown origin purchased online.
-
Process: Components were mixed without scientific formulas or medicinal properties, then manually bottled and packaged for sale.
-
Health Risks: The resulting liquid lacked authentic analgesic or antiseptic qualities. These industrial chemicals pose severe health risks, including skin irritation and potential toxicity, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.
It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of these counterfeit units were sold at low prices for illicit profit. Law enforcement agencies are currently expanding the investigation to identify chemical suppliers and the full extent of the distribution network.
