Updated mandatory vaccination protocols in Vietnam starting 2026

Health authorities release a comprehensive list of infectious diseases and immunization schedules for children and pregnant women.

Circular No. 52/2025/TT-BYT has been issued to regulate the mandatory use of vaccines and medical biologicals within the public health framework. This directive supersedes previous guidelines, establishing a structured timeline to enhance community disease prevention.

Key highlights of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI)

The mandatory list currently identifies 12 infectious diseases. The vaccination roadmap is strictly categorized by age groups:

  • Newborns: Priority is given to the Hepatitis B vaccine (within the first 24 hours) and the Tuberculosis (BCG) vaccine (within the first month).

  • Infants under 12 months: Administration of combination vaccines against Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Polio, and Hib. Additionally, oral Rota vaccines and a single-dose Measles vaccine are scheduled by 9 months of age.

  • Children aged 1 to 7 years: Completion of booster shots for Measles-Rubella, Japanese Encephalitis, and reinforced doses for Diphtheria and Tetanus.

  • Maternal health: Pregnant women must follow a Tetanus vaccination schedule tailored to their prior immunization history to ensure dual protection for mother and infant.

Regulations for high-risk and epidemic zones

For areas with active outbreaks or individuals traveling to affected regions, the Ministry of Health mandates additional vaccines and biologicals, including Cholera, Rabies, Influenza, and COVID-19. Local authorities will determine the specific implementation based on the regional epidemiological status.

Effective date

The new regulations will take full effect on February 15, 2026. Health officials clarify that the minimum one-month interval between doses is defined as 28 days to maintain optimal immunological efficacy.
