Authorities from both nations have coordinated a humanitarian “green lane” mechanism to provide timely support for critical patients requiring cross-border transfer during the 2026 New Year holiday.
During the recent holiday period, border guard units at the Mong Cai International Border Gate (Vietnam) and their counterparts in Dongxing (China) implemented a special priority protocol for ambulances. This mechanism aims to minimize administrative processing time, ensuring that patients reach medical facilities within the “golden hour.”
Key medical assistance cases
In just a few days, this international coordination mechanism facilitated the rapid handling of three severe health cases:
-
Spinal injury case: A 51-year-old male Chinese citizen was granted emergency exit on the afternoon of January 2 to return home for treatment.
-
Cerebrovascular accident case: An elderly female patient (76 years old) suffering from a cerebral infarction was handed over to the neighboring country’s medical team on the morning of the last day of 2025.
-
Vietnamese citizen case: A 64-year-old woman from Quang Ninh with spinal fractures was also transferred to China for specialized medical intervention.
Significance of humanitarian coordination
The operation of the medical priority lane at the Bac Luan 2 Bridge area goes beyond addressing individual cases. It serves as evidence of flexible border management that prioritizes human life above all else.
This model is recognized as a vital factor in strengthening public and tourist confidence, while also fostering mutual support in healthcare and social welfare between the border localities of the two countries.
