Nestlé Vietnam responds to baby formula recall over toxin concerns

Regarding the voluntary recall of several infant formula batches across more than 40 countries (primarily in Europe and the Americas), Nestlé Vietnam has issued an official statement concerning the local market. The company confirms that none of the affected batches in the warning list have been imported into Vietnam.

The manufacturer stated that two specific brands, BEBA and Alfamino, have never been registered or officially distributed in Vietnam through any channels, including direct sales or e-commerce. Despite this, these products are still reportedly available on various retail websites. Health experts advise consumers to be cautious with “hand-carried” (unofficial import) goods to avoid the risk of purchasing recalled items.

The recall was triggered by the potential presence of cereulid, a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus bacteria. This toxin can cause severe vomiting and fatigue within 30 minutes to 6 hours of consumption. Although Nestlé confirms that no illnesses have been reported to date, the recall is being implemented across markets in Europe, Africa, and Oceania for product lines including BEBA, Alfamino, Nan, and SMA.
