Health authorities intensify infectious disease control in Ho Chi Minh City

In response to the complicated developments of dengue fever and hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD), the Department of Disease Control (Ministry of Health) has issued an urgent directive requiring local health agencies to strengthen response measures. Although the total number of infections has shown signs of decreasing, the rate of severe and critical cases in Ho Chi Minh City remains at a concerning level.

Key strategic priorities include:

  • Outbreak containment: Focus on thoroughly handling existing hotspots and proactively detecting new outbreaks, particularly in densely populated residential areas and construction sites.

  • Educational oversight: Tighten hygiene management at preschools and elementary schools. Schools are required to ensure a disinfected environment and closely monitor children’s health to promptly notify authorities of suspected cases.

  • Enhancing treatment capacity: Organize intensive training for medical staff on diagnostic techniques and treatment protocols to minimize fatalities caused by late hospitalization or delayed transfers.

Authorities identified that the primary cause of severe cases is the subjective attitude of the public regarding home health monitoring. Additionally, fluctuating weather conditions and rapid urbanization have created favorable environments for disease vectors to thrive. The Ministry of Health recommends that citizens strictly maintain environmental hygiene, eliminate mosquito larvae, and practice regular hand sanitization to protect themselves and the community.
