Hanoi strategizes to become a high-quality medical hub

In an effort to materialize long-term development orientations, Hanoi’s healthcare sector is mobilizing all resources to build a sustainable health ecosystem. Leveraging its high concentration of medical universities and leading hospitals, the city aims to manage public health through a synchronized digital data platform.

Key development pillars:

  • Digital Transformation and Big Data: Currently, 42 public hospitals have successfully linked their data. The next goal is to integrate information from the private sector and ministerial hospitals into a unified data warehouse. This system will support disease pattern analysis, shared diagnostic results, and the creation of lifelong electronic health records for every citizen.

  • Human Resource Optimization: The city plans to establish a database of high-level experts to coordinate training resources and professional support across all levels, from central to local facilities.

  • Primary Healthcare Reform: Starting from 2026, Hanoi aims for every resident to undergo a periodic health check-up or screening at least once a year. Local health stations will receive comprehensive support from higher-level hospitals to improve primary care capacity.

  • Medical Tourism Development: Health authorities are researching solutions to build distinct medical service brands, combining specialized treatment with tourism to attract both domestic and international visitors.

Health officials emphasize that establishing a professional pre-hospital emergency system and modernizing the network of local health stations are urgent tasks to ensure residents receive the best care right in their communities.
