The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has ordered a recall of specific batches of infant formula from brands Nestlé and Dumex. The action follows the discovery of cereulide, a toxin known to cause gastrointestinal issues such as nausea and vomiting, within the products.
The affected batches include Nestlé NAN HA1 SupremePro (800g, produced in Switzerland) and Dumex Dulac 1 (800g, produced in Thailand). According to the SFA, these products may have incorporated the same contaminated raw materials from a single source. Furthermore, SMC Nutrition, a Singapore-based manufacturer, was found to have used the same compromised ingredients in certain exported infant formulas.
Cereulide is a toxin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus. While associated symptoms typically resolve within 24 hours, infants remain a high-risk group for more severe health complications. In response to the situation, Nestlé Vietnam has also proactively recalled 17 batches of NAN products as a precautionary measure to ensure consumer safety.
