Under the Law on Disease Prevention 2025, which takes full effect on July 1, 2026, medical quarantine protocols at border gates will be strictly enforced to proactively detect and prevent the cross-border transmission of infectious diseases. These measures are mandatory for all entry, exit, and transit activities.
Categories subject to medical quarantine include:
-
Individuals: All persons entering, exiting, or transiting through Vietnam.
-
Transport & Cargo: International vehicles and goods in transit, import, or export.
-
Special Categories: Human remains (bodies, ashes), tissues, body parts, and medical specimens transported across borders.
The quarantine process involves data collection on global outbreaks, health declarations, and clinical observations. Notably, physical inspections will be mandatory for individuals and items originating from or passing through regions with recorded Group A or specific Group B infectious diseases. If a potential threat is identified, authorities are empowered to implement immediate isolation and medical interventions at the border gate to safeguard public health.
