Authorities initiate inspections of infant formula following international safety alerts
The Danone Group (France) recently announced a voluntary recall of a specific batch of Aptamil First Infant Formula (800g containers, expiry date October 31, 2026) in the UK market. This action was prompted by the detection of cereulide, a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus bacteria.
In response, the Vietnam Food Administration, under the Ministry of Health, has directed local health and safety departments to review all registration and distribution records for this product line. The primary goal is to verify whether the affected batches have entered the Vietnamese market through official or unofficial channels.
If any products from the flagged batch are identified, businesses are required to immediately cease sales, secure existing stock, and follow standard recall protocols. Furthermore, authorities have requested e-commerce regulators to monitor online marketplaces and remove any listings of the compromised products.
Medical experts note that cereulide is a heat-stable toxin that remains active even after standard heating processes. Exposure can lead to acute symptoms such as vomiting and digestive distress, posing significant health risks to the sensitive systems of infants and young children.
