Ha Tinh culls nearly 1,000 poultry and activates protocols to prevent H5N1 transmission to humans

Authorities in Ha Tinh province have implemented emergency measures following the confirmed outbreak of H5N1 avian influenza in Cam Xuyen district.

The incident began on February 7, 2026, when sick and dying poultry were reported across multiple households in Village 1. Subsequent laboratory tests confirmed that the samples were positive for the H5N1 virus. To date, veterinary forces have collaborated to cull a total of 902 birds (predominantly chickens and ducks) from 27 households to contain the spread.

In tandem with livestock management, the Ha Tinh Center for Disease Control (CDC) has provided 100kg of Chloramine B for environmental disinfection in high-risk areas. Local health officials are placing a high priority on preventing the pathogen from crossing over to the human population.

Given the surge in food demand during the Lunar New Year season, health authorities advise the public to:

  • Strictly avoid consuming, transporting, or slaughtering poultry of unknown origin or those showing symptoms of illness.

  • Ensure all poultry products are thoroughly cooked and avoid raw blood pudding.

  • Promptly report abnormal livestock deaths to local authorities and veterinary units instead of handling them personally.
