Exploiting the surge in financial demand during the year-end season, high-tech criminals are intensifying scams involving Social Insurance policies, specifically targeting workers and the elderly.
Current fraudulent tactics have become increasingly sophisticated:
-
Fake support packages: Scammers pose as social insurance officials to contact citizens about “Lunar New Year subsidies” or “unemployment fund support.” They lure victims into clicking suspicious links or providing OTP codes and bank account details under the guise of “confirming payment.”
-
Advanced spoofing technology: Criminals utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deepfake technology to mimic the voices and images of authorities. They also create fake websites and interfaces that closely resemble the official VssID application to steal personal data.
-
Quick withdrawal services: Targeting those in need of immediate cash, advertisements for “expedited one-time social insurance withdrawals” have proliferated. These subjects often demand advance processing fees or deposits before disappearing.
Vietnam Social Security affirms that all official support procedures are conducted publicly through authorized channels. The agency never requests confidential information or fees over the phone. Citizens are advised to install applications only from official stores, never share bank passwords with strangers, and immediately report suspicious activities to the police.
