National health data update during the first 5 days of Binh Ngo Lunar New Year

Based on aggregated reports from medical facilities nationwide, the health sector has released statistics regarding emergency care and treatment from February 14 to the morning of February 19, 2026.

General medical examination and treatment Throughout the five-day holiday period, the healthcare system handled a total of 358,024 medical examinations and emergency visits. In the 24 hours leading up to the 3rd day of Tet alone, nearly 59,720 cases were recorded. Over 118,000 patients required inpatient admission during the holiday. Regarding surgical activities, doctors performed 14,140 operations, including nearly 2,500 emergency surgeries.

Birth and mortality statistics As of the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year, hospitals across the country welcomed 11,013 newborns. Of these, the cesarean section rate accounted for approximately 47.5% (5,239 cases). Conversely, the total number of deaths (including critical cases discharged at family request) was recorded at 1,388 over the past five days.

Traffic accidents and other incidents Statistics indicate 18,255 medical visits suspected to be related to traffic accidents during the five-day break. Within this group, 123 fatalities were reported. Compared to the same period last year, while the number of emergency visits increased slightly, the rates of hospitalization and mortality due to traffic accidents showed a downward trend.

Regarding other types of incidents:

  • Firecrackers and explosives: 57 emergency cases suspected to be caused by improvised weapons or explosives were recorded (including 3 fatalities). On the 3rd day of Tet alone, there were 32 cases related to firecrackers, a significant decrease compared to 2025.

  • Food poisoning: There were 432 visits for digestive disorders and food poisoning. Notably, no large-scale food poisoning outbreaks were reported during the holiday.

By the morning of February 19, approximately 111,325 patients remained hospitalized for treatment. National blood reserves stood at 18,112 units, ensuring sufficient supply for ongoing medical needs.
