National health statistics during the 5-day Lunar New Year break

Latest data from the national health management authority provides a comprehensive overview of medical services and public health safety during the recent long holiday.

Medical services and birth indicators From February 14 to the morning of the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year (February 19), the national healthcare system handled 358,024 medical examinations and emergency visits. Notably, hospitals across the country welcomed 11,013 newborns. In terms of surgical capacity, a total of 14,140 operations were performed, including nearly 2,500 emergency interventions. Currently, over 122,900 patients remain hospitalized for ongoing treatment.

Accidents and injuries statistics Traffic safety and explosive-related incidents showed specific fluctuations compared to the previous year:

  • Traffic accidents: The system recorded 18,255 hospitalizations suspected to be related to traffic collisions over the five days. There were 123 fatalities suspected from this cause; however, the overall trend has decreased significantly compared to the same period in 2025.

  • Explosive-related accidents: There were 303 emergency cases related to fireworks and firecrackers (a decrease of over 30% compared to last year), with one reported fatality. Conversely, accidents involving improvised weapons and explosives showed an upward trend, with 57 emergency cases and 3 deaths.

  • Food poisoning: 432 medical visits were recorded for digestive issues and alcohol consumption. Authorities confirmed that no large-scale mass food poisoning outbreaks occurred during the holiday.

Preparedness and prevention Health authorities assessed that hospitals strictly maintained 4-level on-duty shifts and ensured sufficient reserves of blood, biological products, and infusions. The reduction in deaths from traffic accidents and firecrackers is a positive signal in public health protection efforts for the new year.
