Vietnamese medicine has recently recorded breakthrough advancements by fully mastering the lung transplant procedure – one of the most complex techniques in modern medicine. In the final two months of 2025 alone, a total of five successful surgeries were performed, including high-intensity consecutive transplant waves. By early 2026, the domestic medical network has successfully completed 13 lung transplants with positive post-operative survival rates, nearing international standards.
This success results from adopting rigorous professional protocols from world-leading medical centers, combined with seamless coordination among major hospitals nationwide. Currently, the expertise of domestic medical teams allows lung transplantation to become a routine procedure. It is projected that with a sufficient supply of donated organs, the operational capacity could handle up to 50 cases annually, aiming to establish a key regional center for lung transplant treatment and training in Southeast Asia.
In addition to conquering technical milestones, medical management efficiency has shown marked improvement. Average inpatient treatment time has been optimized to 7.9 days through the implementation of electronic medical records and digitalized management processes. Notably, the cost of these specialized surgeries in Vietnam is significantly lower than in other countries in the region and is supported by health insurance, expanding access to high-tech medical care for the general public.
