Nationwide inspection of European baby food products

Health authorities in Vietnam have launched a comprehensive review of jarred baby food products under the HiPP brand. This action follows international safety alerts regarding potential toxic contamination discovered in overseas markets.

Event details Specifically, the “HiPP Vegetable Carrot with Potato” (190g jar) was removed from approximately 1,500 retail outlets of the SPAR supermarket chain in Austria. The recall was initiated after Austrian laboratory tests confirmed the presence of substances typically found in rodenticides. Similar irregularities were also reported in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Identification signs for compromised jars include broken safety seals on the lids, red circular labels on the bottom, or an unusual odor emanating from the product.

Regulatory response In Vietnam, the Food Safety Department has directed local authorities to implement the following measures:

  1. Document review: Conduct a thorough audit of all registration and self-declaration documents for this product line.

  2. Suspension of sales: Collaborate with importers to notify distributors and consumers to cease using the product immediately.

  3. Data reporting: Agencies are required to submit statistics on imported quantities, sales figures, and current inventory levels by April 27.

  4. E-commerce control: Online trading platforms have been requested to remove listings and prevent the distribution of the affected batches.
