Eli Lilly allocates additional $4.5B to expand Indiana manufacturing footprint

Eli Lilly and Company has announced a further $4.5 billion investment across two of its sites in Lebanon, Indiana. This latest commitment brings the company’s total capital expansion in the state to over $21 billion since 2020.

Focus on advanced technology and future therapies The new funding will incorporate innovative process designs and state-of-the-art technologies at two key facilities:

  • Lilly Lebanon API: Set to become the largest active pharmaceutical ingredient production site in U.S. history when it opens in 2027.

  • Lilly Lebanon Advanced Therapies: The company’s first dedicated genetic medicine manufacturing facility, which officially opened last week.

Scaling production for obesity and metabolic treatments In addition to supporting the production of widely prescribed injectable medications for diabetes and weight management, Eli Lilly is scaling up for its next generation of therapies. The investment will support the manufacturing of Foundayo (orforglipron), the first FDA-approved once-daily weight-loss pill with no food or water restrictions. It will also facilitate the production of retatrutide, an investigational triple hormone receptor agonist currently in late-stage development for obesity and cardiometabolic diseases.

This domestic expansion underscores Eli Lilly’s strategy of building advanced infrastructure at home to secure the global supply of future medical breakthroughs.
