Artificial Intelligence: A new assistant for hospital pharmacists in clinical practice

In an effort to modernize the healthcare sector and accelerate digital transformation, a specialized training program on Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications was launched for pharmacists in Ho Chi Minh City on January 21, 2026. This initiative is part of a large-scale campaign aiming to equip 15,000 healthcare professionals nationwide with advanced technological skills.

Revolutionizing medical knowledge acquisition Rather than replacing human expertise, AI is positioned as a powerful supportive tool to help pharmacists optimize professional tasks. During the training, experts demonstrated how to leverage this technology for literature searches, drug information synthesis, and the analysis of adverse drug reactions (ADR). By utilizing precise prompting techniques, pharmacists can significantly reduce data processing time, allowing them to focus more on clinical treatment decision-making.

Ethical challenges and data accuracy A core component of the program focused on the limitations of technology, particularly the phenomenon of “information hallucinations” (incorrect data generated by AI). Experts emphasized that pharmacists must remain at the center of the process, holding ultimate responsibility by verifying and cross-referencing AI outputs with official medical sources. The integration of technology must consistently align with professional ethical standards and the primary goal of patient safety.

Vision for a smart healthcare system The project is expected to cultivate a new generation of healthcare workers highly adaptable to the digital environment. This is more than just a skill-upgrading activity; it is a strategic move to realize national policies on technological breakthroughs, contributing to the development of a smart and sustainable healthcare network in Vietnam for the 2025-2026 period.
