Hanoi University of Public Health: 25 years of shaping Vietnam’s preventive medicine pillar

Established on April 26, 2001, from the School of Health Management, the Hanoi University of Public Health (HUPH) has spent a quarter-century asserting its position as a pioneer in training specialized human resources for community health management and protection.

Expansion and diversification of education Evolving from traditional majors in Public Health and Hospital Management, the university has strategically expanded its curriculum to essential fields such as Medical Laboratory Technology, Nutrition, Social Work, Rehabilitation, and Health Data Science. To date, the institution has supplied over 12,500 professionals to the healthcare system, meeting labor demands from grassroots levels to policy-making agencies.

A community-oriented educational identity HUPH’s distinction lies in its interdisciplinary and field-based approach. Students are equipped with skills in sociological investigation, data analysis, and developing intervention plans directly within communities. The operation of Pham Ngoc Thach General Hospital not only serves public healthcare needs but also provides a practical environment for clinical and administrative training.

Integration and international standing HUPH was the first medical institution in Vietnam to join the tropEdinternational network, establishing partnerships with prestigious universities such as Johns Hopkins, Emory (USA), and Uppsala (Sweden).
