Ho Chi Minh City intensifies medical screening at airports to prevent Nipah virus

To proactively mitigate the risk of Nipah virus entry, Ho Chi Minh City authorities have established a rigorous disease prevention system at border gates and within the city, particularly focusing on the peak festival season of early 2026.

At airports and seaports, functional forces have deployed remote temperature screening for all arriving passengers. Individuals exhibiting fever symptoms will undergo detailed epidemiological investigations, especially those arriving from or transiting through high-risk areas. Within the city, community-based surveillance networks and rapid response teams have been strengthened to trace and isolate suspected cases immediately.

The city’s healthcare sector has prepared essential resources, including personnel, medicine, and medical equipment, for potential treatment. Furthermore, food safety inspections and public health communication are being prioritized to help citizens recognize early symptoms of the disease.

Alongside pandemic prevention efforts, Tan Son Nhut International Airport continues to operate at high capacity, handling over 1,000 flights daily. Airport management is working closely with meteorological agencies to monitor weather patterns, ensuring absolute aviation safety during this period of high passenger traffic.
