Nationwide suspension and recall of nearly 300 cosmetic product categories

The Drug Administration of Vietnam, under the Ministry of Health, has officially revoked the registration numbers and ordered a comprehensive recall of 291 cosmetic products. This directive applies to every batch currently on the market that remains within its expiration date.

The primary reason for this large-scale recall is the presence of two specific ingredients: Cyclotetrasiloxane and Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane. Following the updated safety standards from the 42nd ASEAN Cosmetic Committee meeting, these substances are now prohibited in cosmetic formulations to ensure consumer safety. Notably, 131 of the recalled items were manufactured by a single facility based in Hanoi.

Regulatory authorities have mandated that involved companies immediately notify their distribution networks, reclaim all sold stock, and carry out supervised destruction. A final compliance report must be submitted to the Ministry of Health by March 26. Additionally, provincial health departments have been instructed to intensify market inspections and publicize the list of banned items to prevent further usage by the public.
