On January 19, 2026, the construction of the new Quế Phong District Medical Center in Nghệ An province officially commenced. This healthcare project, with a total investment of 90 billion VND from the provincial budget, aims to replace the existing degraded facility that no longer meets the growing needs of this mountainous border region.
The project’s centerpiece is a six-story building with a total floor area exceeding 6,800 . The center is designed to house modern functional departments, including emergency services, medical imaging, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, traditional medicine, and integrated technical systems. Once operational, the 170-bed facility will address the shortage of medical infrastructure in an area characterized by fragmented terrain and challenging transportation.
Local health officials expect this project to mark a turning point in narrowing the healthcare gap between mountainous and lowland areas. Upgrading the infrastructure will not only enable border residents to access safe and timely medical services locally but also serve as a vital factor in attracting and retaining skilled medical professionals in underprivileged regions.
