The Investigation Agency of Lao Cai Provincial Police has officially initiated legal proceedings against Doan Trung Duc (46), General Director of Medistar Vietnam Co., Ltd., and five accomplices. The suspects are under investigation for manufacturing and trading counterfeit food products, as well as committing serious accounting violations.
The operation was conducted through the collaboration of Lao Cai Police, the Ministry of Public Security, and Hanoi Police. Approximately 200 officers conducted simultaneous raids across five locations in Hanoi. At a manufacturing facility located in the Quang Minh Industrial Zone, authorities discovered a vast quantity of counterfeit supplements in the process of being packaged. The fraudulent items primarily included collagen, vitamins, and supplements for joint and digestive health.
Preliminary investigations indicate that between 2012 and 2025, the company distributed hundreds of tons of substandard dietary supplements into the market. Total revenue from these activities is estimated at nearly 1.8 trillion VND. Beyond product quality violations, the agency identified signs of illicit gains amounting to hundreds of billions of VND through off-book accounting practices, resulting in significant tax evasion. The case remains under further investigation.
