Vietnam acquires world-leading Proton therapy technology from the U.S.

As part of an international healthcare partnership, a Vietnamese general hospital system has officially signed a contract to purchase and transfer the technology for the MEVION S250-FIT Proton therapy system. Valued at approximately 80 million USD, this represents the most advanced radiation therapy version globally.

Breakthrough technology and superior advantages Unlike traditional X-ray (photon) radiation, which can pass through the body and affect healthy tissues, the new-generation Proton technology possesses a “precise stop” capability.

  • High Precision: With the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), high-energy beams are accurately focused on the tumor, even in complex locations such as the brain, spinal cord, head and neck, or lungs.

  • Minimized Side Effects: This technology minimizes damage to vital organs surrounding the tumor, leading to faster recovery and fewer long-term complications for patients.

  • Optimized Design: The system features an “all-in-one” design with a superconducting accelerator and integrated CT imaging, shortening treatment times and enhancing patient comfort.

Vietnam’s position on the global medical technology map This agreement makes Vietnam the second country in the world (after the U.S.) to access the MEVION S250-FIT system—a model recently cleared by the FDA in October 2025. This milestone allows local patients to access top-tier cancer treatments without traveling abroad and affirms the capability of Vietnamese medical professionals to master complex medical technologies.

The system is expected to be operational in Ho Chi Minh City, completing a multi-modal cancer treatment model that meets international standards.
