Vietnam advances stem cell applications through public-private healthcare partnership

The strategic alliance between a leading medical training institution and a specialized cell therapy provider is set to integrate Japanese-standard regenerative medicine into official clinical practice in Vietnam.

Synergizing resources to master spearhead technologies

On the afternoon of March 12, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (Linh Dam Facility) and Mescells Medical System officially signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement. The focus is on transferring and mastering the production of mesenchymal stem cells according to high technical standards from Japan.

This initiative aligns with the government’s strategy to designate cell therapy as a key national technology group. Beyond laboratory research, the partnership aims to provide specialized medical training and conduct standardized clinical trials, particularly for spinal conditions, musculoskeletal disorders, and sports injury recovery.

Establishing legal frameworks and community benefits

According to Ministry of Health officials, the regulatory framework concerning cells and cell-based products will be further refined throughout 2026. This is a crucial step for public and private medical units to collaboratively develop technical lists and move toward routine clinical implementation.

This partnership model offers significant community value by enabling domestic patients to access advanced treatments at a much lower cost compared to seeking care abroad. Furthermore, the strict adherence to bioethical standards and existing legal frames aims to position Vietnam as a regional hub for biomedical technology.
