WHO applauds strategic advancements in Vietnam’s public health sector

In a recent report released from Switzerland, the World Health Organization (WHO) recognized significant progress in Vietnam’s health reform roadmap. According to international experts, the Vietnamese Government is demonstrating strong political will through comprehensive reform commitments aimed at a more modern, equitable, and sustainable healthcare system.

Strategic goals and priority areas WHO highlighted Vietnam’s positive shifts through several key ambitions:

  • Social welfare policy: A long-term orientation toward providing essential healthcare services free of charge.

  • Technological infrastructure: Accelerating digital transformation and establishing centralized health databases.

  • Health security: Adopting a multi-sectoral approach to risk management, improving living environments, and prioritizing investment in grassroots health services.

Field action and international cooperation During the latter half of 2025, the collaboration between WHO and Vietnam focused on controlling leading causes of mortality such as non-communicable diseases (NCDs), protecting children through vaccination, and reducing risk factors from tobacco and traffic accidents. Additionally, climate change adaptation and air quality improvement have been integrated into the public health agenda.

Dr. Angela Pratt, WHO Representative in Vietnam, emphasized that this is a “golden opportunity” to accelerate community health progress. Support from international partners and sustainable financing are expected to help Vietnam meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhance the system’s resilience against future challenges.
