Overview and Objectives of the Alliance California-based Dark Horse Consulting Group and Beijing-based clinical research organization (CRO) KunTuo Research and Development have finalized a memorandum of understanding (MOU). The strategic agreement is designed to encourage global drug sponsors to initiate cell and gene therapy clinical trials within China.
The partnership unifies the core competencies of both firms to create an integrated, one-stop solution for biotechnology developers worldwide. The joint service offerings span global regulatory strategy development, drug development processes, and clinical trial execution. A primary milestone of the MOU is to ensure that all resulting clinical trial data generated from these Chinese studies are structurally optimized for global data reuse, making them fully eligible for subsequent regulatory submissions and approvals outside of China.
Institutional Background and Capabilities
-
KunTuo’s Framework: Founded by IQVIA as a trial services provider tailored for both domestic Chinese and international markets, KunTuo has provided clinical services for over 1,000 drug trials, with a significant majority centered around advanced therapies. The CRO has been assembling a dedicated cell and gene therapy clinical team since 2018, an initiative that accelerated through a 2022 partnership with contract manufacturer Porton Advance.
-
Dark Horse’s Expansion: This MOU represents a consecutive expansion of Dark Horse’s operational presence in the Chinese biopharmaceutical sector. The announcement follows a separate corporate partnership established a few weeks prior between Dark Horse and Porton Advance, which focused on offering client companies a cost-effective pathway into clinical-stage manufacturing, with an emphasis on enabling Investigator-Initiated Trials (IITs) in China.
