Nationwide recall of Nivea skincare product over formula discrepancy

On March 24, 2026, the Drug Administration of Vietnam (Ministry of Health) officially issued a nationwide recall and suspension order for the cosmetic product Nivea Extra Bright Night Nourish. The decision followed an investigation revealing inconsistencies between the product’s actual composition and its registered regulatory filing.

Details of violations and enforcement actions:

  • Reason for Recall: Inspection results showed the presence of Propylparaben at a concentration of 0.1%, a preservative that was not included in the previously authorized formula. This substance is known to potentially cause skin irritation or allergic reactions, particularly in individuals with sensitive skin.

  • Emergency Measures: Beiersdorf Vietnam Co., Ltd. is required to immediately notify its entire distribution network, recall, and destroy all non-compliant batches currently on the market.

  • Additional Sanctions: Beyond the product recall, regulatory authorities have decided to suspend the processing of new cosmetic product notifications from Beiersdorf Vietnam for a period of 6 months, effective from March 24, 2026.

  • Supervisory Responsibility: The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health and other local authorities are tasked with monitoring the recall process and strictly penalizing any retailers that continue to sell the affected product.

This incident directly impacts the reputation of one of the world’s largest cosmetic groups in Vietnam, which is well-known for prominent brands such as Nivea and Eucerin.
