Switchback Medical, a prominent medical device CDMO, has finalized a lease for an 18,000-square-foot facility within the Coyol Free Trade Zone in Costa Rica. This expansion marks a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to bolster its global manufacturing and development footprint.
Operational Roadmap and Infrastructure:
-
Technical Facilities: The site features a 3,500-square-foot cleanroom specifically designed for the production of high-precision components, including braided shafts and extrusions.
-
Timeline for Launch: Development and product transfers are scheduled to begin immediately. The facility aims to achieve ISO 13485 certification and commence full-scale manufacturing by the end of 2026.
-
Future Expansion: The Coyol site serves as the primary phase of a broader regional strategy. Switchback plans to open a second, larger production hub in the Evolution Free Trade Zone by 2027, which will focus on top-level assembly.
The company leadership emphasized that the dual-facility strategy in Costa Rica creates a scalable environment. This infrastructure allows Switchback to support global clients through the entire lifecycle of a medical device, from early-stage innovation to high-volume commercial production.
