Thermo Fisher Scientific opens flagship U.S. Bioprocess Design Center in Massachusetts

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has inaugurated its flagship U.S. Bioprocess Design Center (BDC) at its Plainville, Massachusetts site. This expansion is designed to provide critical support for customers developing and scaling biologics, such as vaccines and advanced cell and gene therapies.

The BDC features 4,000 square feet of dedicated laboratory and training space, showcasing Thermo Fisher’s comprehensive, end-to-end bioproduction workflow. Customers can collaborate on integrated solutions spanning cell line development, single-use systems, chromatography, filtration, and purification. By integrating this center into the existing 290,000-square-foot Plainville facility, Thermo Fisher now offers a full suite of capabilities that complement its established viral vector services and sterile fill-finish operations.

Thermo Fisher’s leadership highlighted that the BDC serves as a collaborative hub where scientists and engineers work side-by-side with customers to solve complex bioprocessing challenges. This hands-on partnership aims to translate innovative concepts into scalable manufacturing solutions, ultimately accelerating the timeline for delivering life-changing therapies to patients across the United States.
