AstraZeneca has entered into a three-year licensing agreement to integrate K Pro, Owkin’s “AI Scientist,” into its IT infrastructure and decision-making workflows. This partnership builds upon the previous successful collaboration between the two firms in developing AI solutions for breast cancer gene screening.
Empowering Decisions with Agentic AI The primary goal of this agreement is to build biopharma agents that empower AstraZeneca’s decision-making teams to:
-
Access timely, data-rich insights using multimodal biological data.
-
Enhance competitive intelligence by reducing reliance on manual analysis.
-
Accelerate executive decision-making processes while maintaining strict standards of governance and security.
The Shift to Biological Superintelligence Owkin, a specialist in biological artificial superintelligence, will lead the end-to-end development of these AI agents running on the K Pro platform. Owkin’s leadership believes the future of the pharmaceutical industry is “agentic,” where complex AI agents assist in every step of the pharmaceutical value chain to increase efficiency.
Global Expansion and Innovation In addition to its AI initiatives, AstraZeneca continues to expand its physical footprint. In March 2026, the company announced the establishment of an innovation center in Shanghai. This facility will serve as a commercial manufacturing and supply base, providing comprehensive end-to-end cell therapy capabilities in China.
