OrganaBio Acquires Excellos Assets to Establish Coast-to-Coast Cell Therapy CDMO

OrganaBio has announced the substantial acquisition of all operating assets from San Diego-based Excellos. This move officially establishes a bicoastal Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) footprint in the United States.

New Organizational Structure Excellos, which spun out of the San Diego Blood Bank in 2021, will now operate as Excellos Labs, a wholly owned subsidiary of OrganaBio. This addition complements OrganaBio’s existing FDA-registered subsidiaries:

  • HemaCenter: Focused on adult leukapheresis (Miami).

  • GaiaGift: Specializing in birth tissue and cord blood (Miami).

  • Excellos Labs: Expanding cell processing and manufacturing capabilities (San Diego).

Expanded CDMO Capabilities The acquisition brings five ISO 7 cGMP cleanroom suites into OrganaBio’s network. These facilities will support a wide range of services, including:

  • Autologous and allogeneic cell therapy manufacturing.

  • Cell isolation, enrichment, and expansion.

  • Cryopreservation and fill-finish services.

Strategic Impact According to the leadership teams, this integration provides critical redundancy and expanded geographical reach, ensuring operational continuity for their diverse customer base. The combined entity now serves many of the world’s top 20 pharmaceutical companies and emerging private biotechnology developers. Full integration of the teams and infrastructure is expected to be completed within the next 12 months.
