Vietnam’s Ministry of Health enforces nationwide recall on sunscreens and facial masks over formula discrepancies

The Drug Administration of Vietnam, operating under the Ministry of Health, has issued an immediate nationwide circulation ban and recall targeting specific commercial batches of Antisun sunscreen and Whitening Sheet Mask Greentea. The regulatory intervention was triggered after official laboratory audits revealed that the actual chemical formulations of these products deviated significantly from the authorized technical dossiers previously filed with the agency. Both affected product lines have been widely distributed across various e-commerce platforms.

The tracking parameters and technical identification for the compromised cosmetic batches include:

  • Whitening Sheet Mask Greentea: Commercially registered by TVR Joint Stock Company. The recalled inventory belongs to batch identifier 5050501, manufactured on May 5, 2025, and registered under notification receipt number 1685/20/CBMP-LA.

  • Antisun Sunscreen: Manufactured under the corporate oversight of Tami Natural Home Pharmaceutical Cosmetics Production Company Limited. The non-compliant lot carries the batch number 0124DH, manufactured on March 15, 2024, and circulated under notification receipt number 0402/24/CBMP-LA.

Dermatological experts caution that utilizing cosmetic formulations with unverified or modified ingredient matrixes exposes consumers to severe risks of skin irritation and allergic reactions, while failing to provide the promised protective or therapeutic benefits. Furthermore, these manufacturing discrepancies impose a direct financial strain on consumers due to potential medical expenses for dermatological care and erode baseline consumer trust in brand integrity.

In response to the violations, the federal regulator has instructed regional health departments to direct all retail hubs, pharmacies, and cosmetic outlets to immediately halt the sale and utilization of these specific lots. The implicated manufacturing enterprises are legally mandated to distribute recall notifications across their entire supply chains, manage returned inventory from consumers, and submit a comprehensive reconciliation report to the regulatory authority prior to July 25. This enforcement action aligns with an intensifying state campaign to eliminate substandard formulations, counterfeit personal care goods, and deceptive marketing advertisements from the domestic marketplace.
